The research team of the Institute of Innovative Traditional Chinese Medicine has discovered a new artemisinin derivative with promising prospects for the treatment of pancreatic cancer
Recently, the Institute of Innovative Chinese Materia Medica of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has achieved significant scientific research results. Under the guidance of Academician Lin Guoqiang, Zhao Qingjie's research group published a significant study in the international authoritative journal Advanced Science, revealing the great potential of the novel artemisinin derivative ZQJ29 in the field of pancreatic cancer treatment.
Based on the structural characteristics of artemisinin derivatives, the team successfully synthesized a novel artemisinin dimer derivative, ZQJ29, through systematic optimization design. Experimental data show that ZQJ29 exhibits extremely strong inhibitory activity against pancreatic cancer cells such as PANC-1 and KP4, while having extremely low toxicity to normal cells. More importantly, in vivo experiments further confirm that compared with the first-line clinical drug oxaliplatin (OXA), it has lower toxic and side effects.
In-depth mechanism research has revealed the unique anti-cancer pathway of ZQJ29. This compound precisely targets the PARP1 protein, inhibits its activity, and thereby induces ferroptosis in pancreatic cancer cells, achieving a synergistic anti-cancer effect. This innovative multi-target mechanism of action is expected to overcome the problem of tumor drug resistance and break the limitations of single therapy.
At present, the relevant research work has completed the application for an invention patent.
